Unite, the UK’s largest trade union is today (Thursday 17th July 2008) demanding that Barclays comes clean on their plans for their 900 staff in Poole, Dorset.
The union is concerned about the long-term job security of the staff after they were informed today that they would now not be re-locating to a new building which is due for completion in 2010. Unite has demanded a written assurance from the company that the workforce is not under threat. Barclays have refused to give such a pledge. The union therefore has real concerns that the job security of staff will be in question after 2010 when the new site was due to be opened.
Graham Goddard, Unite Deputy General Secretary said: “Unite want Barclays to stop playing games with their workforce and make their plans for the 900 staff in Poole clear. We can not have a situation where staff have no faith that they will have a job in two years times. The employees will be stunned to hear that the company have now done a u-turn on their plans for Poole.
“Unite has objected to the lack of consultation by Barclays on their changing plans. The union wants a commitment from the employer that they will not waver in their commitment to the Poole site, now and beyond 2010″.
