S&P Symposium Looks at Potential U.S. Move to International Financial Reporting Standards

Idea exchange on pressing issue to feature corporate financial accounting professionals, industry officials and association experts

Despite the issuance of an SEC ‘roadmap’ for the potential use of the financial statements prepared in accordance with international financial reporting standards (IFRS), much discussion continues about this possible move. One of the largest questions — “Is Now The Time to Move To International Financial Reporting Standards?” — will be the central theme at a Standard & Poor’s forum to be held on May 15th Through a series of panel discussions, the half-day event will explore the issuer’s and user’s perspective, including the opportunities, challenges and implications of introducing IFRS in the U.S.

Along with users of financial information, the symposium will examine the viewpoint of the standard-setters and regulators, corporate and financial industry issuers and auditors with a focus on analytical implications as addressed by Standard & Poor’s ratings analysts and other capital market participants. Topics to be discussed include the pros and cons of introducing IFRS in the U.S., the implications of the transition on analysis, and how market participants plan to deal with the various issues that may arise during implementation.
