A new study prepared by Ernst & Young reveals the percentage of middle-income Americans that will outlive their retirement savings and the major reduction in standard of living they will have to make to avoid outliving savings. The study provides national and state-by-state results. A telephone press briefing will be held to discuss the study’s findings and offer details about those states most at risk.

Vulnerability of New Retirees: The Likelihood of Outliving their Financial Assets.” Findings include:

  • Percent of retirees that will outlive their financial assets
  • National findings
  • Findings for all 50 states and the District of Columbia
  • Reduction in standard of living retirees will have to make to avoid outliving their financial assets
  • Findings are categorized by income, gender, and marital status
  • A comparison between those entering retirement now vs. those that are seven years away from retirement
