Why don't people think before they vote?
First, who do you think will pay this tax increase? The answer is quite simple; the consumer will pay! That's you folks, the same ones who are voting the tax increase. So enjoy paying higher prices to cover the increased taxes.
Second, if the NEA and the teachers are so concerned about our children's education, why did they threaten to strike this past year in the worst part of our recession if they didn't get a wage increase? The police here in Eugene had to forgo an increase to avoid layoffs. Maybe our not-so illustrious teachers should handle some of the criminal activities here. If you doubt my word, email county board member Pete Sorenson. He told me this in an email.
Third, new companies who have good revenues in their startup year will pay taxes even though they show a loss. WOW! That should do a lot to engender the creation of new employment opportunities in Eugene.
Fourth, why would I start or think about moving my business in/to Oregon? It is currently among the highest tax rate in the nation and many idiots who are voting for these new taxes are making it even worse.
I have been a Democrat my entire life which is over 70 years but this is my last year of tax-tax-tax. I have always been for helping the underprivileged and under-employed but I can no longer support those who will not endeavor to prepare themselves for life. Now, the same folks who are ill prepared to exist in our society want to live from those who have taken the initiative to succeed in life. I will not be a part of it any longer and I am changing my political affiliation to either independent or Republican. I never thought I would hear myself say this but...
Fifth: Our illustrious governors in Salem have voted themselves a large increase, also during a cash shortage in Oregon. They increased an already bloated budget by over $400 million. Great leadership and forward thinking - NOT!
Oh, by the way, if you took the time to read the pending legislation, you would see that only 20% of the increased business taxes go to the Attorney Generals Office and the rest goes into the general fund. You can categorize the general fund any way you wish but it's still the general fund. This tax proposal leaves a surplus which will not come back to the constituency, but will be spent. Maybe on additional office furniture, carpet and decor.
Just one closing item; for those who say we don't want anything Socialistic, please stay off of the public roads, public beaches, out of our public schools, don't use our public parks or public buildings or anything else that includes the word "public". My goodness, folks, that is pure Socialistic. We are a Socio-Capitalistic society. Maybe you should read Orwell's 1984. It's coming closer and closer.
Enjoy paying for the tax increase you are voting in this special election. Keep increasing taxes. Just don't look for additional work here in Oregon. It will be in New Mexico and other states who are taking a pro-active stand to entice businesses. You might also consider buying American made products. Gee, that might also create a few more jobs here instead of offshore, mostly China.
Keep voting without doing your due diligence. It doesn't work at all but you did vote, even if you screwed yourself over!

I could not agree more with your headline! The recent federal stimulus package promoting green job training is going to be so beneficial for those looking for employment. Not only is the green movement gaining popularity and relevance, but the skills learned in these training courses are transferable to so many other areas. Companies like Everblue Training Institute are offering such green job training, certifying individuals in just 5 days! After graduating from Everblue's BPI Energy Auditor course, one may participate in Everblue's 6-week energy auditor internship. Both the training and the internship are designed to give individuals first-hand experience with a green trade, as well as networking to help you find a job! ANYONE can become an energy auditor. Now is the time to take advantage of the government's funds and enroll in a training course. This stimulus package was a great idea. I'm ridiculously excited about it because I know it will bring a plethora of jobs, as well as really help make our homes energy efficient.

What we need is a revamped healthcare system. Quarrelling about how to pay for it, no matter who wins the reform debate, won't fix the long-term problem.

It will be interesting tro see what happens when the next wave of foreclosures hit. Especially with California..not only are the foreclosures going to hit them hard but with the budget mess and issuing IOU's it could get ugly real fast. But is California too big too fail? Loan mods wont be helping this foreclosure situation either especially since some of these people with NOD's aren't working..no job...no loan mod.

Disclosures with agents? Never heard of such a thing.
My Prudential agent called me with a fresh listing of home not on the market yet. A real trashed home at a bargain price of three fifty. She said it would be a duel agency with her. I said I'd like to use my own agent from Sothebys. She said if you do that I'll have to place it on the M L S and I would have to compete for the home. Too late now. I could tell Pam was toying with the truth when she pretended to chew gum.
